Quail Forever Launches Campaign for Virginia Specialty License Plate to Amplify Habitat Mission

450 pre-sale plates needed to bring quail conservation plate to roadways

Quail Forever recently received legislative approval for a new Virginia specialty license plate and is now seeking public support to move the plate into production. To meet requirements, 450 prepaid applications must be submitted before the plate can be issued statewide, with proceeds benefitting early successional quail habitat throughout the state.

The specialty plate, depicting the iconic northern bobwhite quail, early successional habitat, pollinators, and longleaf pine, would provide a new funding stream for quail habitat conservation in Virginia. Of the $25 specialty plate fee, $15 will go directly to Quail Forever’s conservation efforts in the state, supporting habitat projects that benefit northern bobwhite quail and other wildlife.

“Over the past three years, Quail Forever has helped restore and enhance over 17,000 acres of wildlife habitat across Virginia,” said Quail Forever Virginia State Coordinator, Alison Menefee. “We are excited about the opportunity this license plate provides, as every plate purchased is an investment into Virginia’s native landscapes and the future of our quail populations and countless other wildlife species across the state.”

Quail Forever in Virginia plans to promote the plate over the next nine months to reach the pre-sale requirement. Pre-sale applications, available in both digital and paper formats, must be completed, signed, and submitted by December 31, 2026. Supporters interested in reserving a plate can complete a pre-sale application before the December deadline.
